Jamie Dornan opened up about his developing career and playing Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of “Fifty Shades of Grey” penned by E.L. James this week. The 32-year-old model turned actor got the role after Charlie Hunnam dropped out, which gave the 34-year-old “Sons of Anarchy” star something to say about the role recently as well at the Hauding Film Awards in Hollywood.
Jamie Dornan Aka Christian Grey first gained fame as an underwear model but he struggled a lot for a break in acting scenes because he’s “crap at auditions,” as he said in an interview for Interview magazine’s June issue. “I know there are people who can walk into those rooms and make those lines sing on the page and get the job immediately. I wasn’t one of them,” he said with a laugh. “I’m still not one of them. Even after I got my first acting job, thanks to Sofia Coppola, director of 2006′s ‘Marie Antoinette,’ where Dornan played Count Axel Fersen, I still went a while without working.”Playing the lead role in the movie adaptation “Fifty Shades” Dornan might have better luck. But don’t worry the 32-year-old actor as an S&M-loving billionaire, won’t let fame get to his head. “I don’t want to be showy,” he said. “I’m not interested in seeing that, and I don’t want to do it.”
Meanwhile Charlie Hunnam, who dropped out of the role of Christian Grey is still heartbroken. The “Sons of Anarchy” star told Life & Style Magazine that he regrets backing out the role of Christian Grey in the movie “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Hunnam steeped down due to alleged scheduling conflict with “Sons of Anarchy”.”I felt like I had an interesting take on that character and felt like I could have done a good job of playing Christian Grey, otherwise I wouldn’t have taken it on in the first place,” he told Life & Style. “When you put the time into something like that and a character comes alive in your mind, it’s heartbreaking not to be able to play him … It was definitely kind of heartbreaking having to say goodbye to that character and not bring it to life.” Despite backing out, Hunnam did say that he still plans on going to see the movie.”If they invite me to the premiere, I will go and see it there,” he said. “If not, I’ll go and buy some tickets on opening night.”
Fifty Shades will be Dornan’s first major movie role as a leading man following his strong performance as a serial killer on television drama The Fall. When asked if there is a difference in artistic approach for the big and small screen, Dornan said good acting is good acting on any size of the screen. The movie Fifty Shades of Grey is scheduled to hit theaters on February 13, 2015. The film adaptation of E.L. James’ best-selling erotic novel will focus on the deepening relationship between a college graduate, Anastasia Steele, and a young business magnate, Christian Grey.
